Phasor measurement units provide synchronized, high-data-rate, and high-resolution phasor measurements of voltage and current in transmission and distribution systems. The synchrophasor data offer the dynamic visibility of the power system operating conditions and enable the development of data-driven approaches for power system monitoring and control. With the recent data deluge, the question is how to translate the data into reliable and actionable information. In this tutorial, we aim to discuss the recent research results on the theory and application of synchrophasor data analytics.
Synchrophasor standards and guides have been a cornerstone for the development of synchrophasor technology. Standards have been developed in parallel to development and deployment of synchrophasor technology addressing all aspects including measurement, equipment, installation, operation, analysis, and data management. They have both led development by setting achievable performance requirements and followed development by addressing implementation problems and concerns. This kind of interaction is important to bringing new technology to a successful operation.
